Acupuncture is a safe and chemical-free way to promote the body's remarkable self-healing abilities by the use of ultra-fine, sterile needles that are inserted into various points on the body to balance the qi (energy) flow. Acupuncture is effective for reducing stress, pain management and reducing inflammation, treatment for anxiety and depression, migraine and tension headache relief, insomnia and restlessness, increasing energy, alleviating allergy, asthma and common cold symptoms, improving emotional stability and clarity, menopausal symptoms and menstrual irregularities, digestive disorders, reduces “cravings” and habitual behaviors (smoking cessation, over eating), weight management, as well as infertility and hormonal imbalances. Dr. Allen is passionate about integrating acupuncture with other modalities of health and wellness to achieve harmony. Therapies in Dr. Allen's scope of practice include: needling, moxibustion, cupping, guasha and acupoint vibration therapy. Moxibustion is the use of the herb mugwort which is lit and used to warm and heal. Cupping uses suction cups along acupuncture meridians or areas of tension to release muscle constraint and stress. Guasha is the use of a jade stone rubbed along the surface of the skin to stimulate that area and initiate healing. Acupoint Vibration Therapy is the use of tuning forks carrying vibrations through acupuncture points to stimulate the area and allow for healing and growth.
Dr. Allen is also trained and certified in the prescription and use of Chinese herbs. She incorporates them into acupuncture treatments when indicated or offers individual herbal consultations and treatments. Herbal Therapy is the natural, pharmaceutical side of Chinese Medicine and comes in the form of capsules, teas, topical ointments and patches.
Chinese herbs are especially beneficial for internal balance of the organs and body systems, as well as pain management.
Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna and Aetna Health Insurance accepted for individual acupuncture treatment sessions, as well as HSA (Health Savings Account)
